Bradley students departed O'Hare airport on two separate flights the evening of Sunday, January 1, 2006. Their planes arrived in London midmorning Monday. Students were greeted with mild weather and a (mostly) cooperative baggage claim process and departed quickly for their home for the next two weeks: London's Royal National Hotel, located in the heart of the city.
This website will be updated once a day with recent photographs and happenings relating to the group's escapades here in and around the city. Check back often for updates!

15 January, 2006 - Noon
This is the last update to the website before we
return to the states. The first bus to the airport leaves tomorrow
at 6 am. Today, students are turning in final papers, taking
final exams, packing, and enjoying their last chance to run free
in London. I hope you enjoyed the photos and commentary during
this trip. Tune in again in May to see what trouble Bradley students
are getting into in London! Don't forget to drop me an email
(ampeters@bradley.edu) if you want any pictures from the trip.
There is talk of putting together a CD with all of the pictures
I've taken or gathered, too, but I'm not sure how quickly that
will happen.
13 January, 2006 - Morning
Things are going much more smoothly with the website,
now. Everything should be up and working properly. If you're
still having issues, email me and tell me what sort of computer
you're using, and what Internet browsing program you're trying.
That'll help me troubleshoot. In the meantime, we have been having
all sorts of fun. The trip is winding up, but there are still
things to see, places to go, tests to take and papers to write.
This weekend holds the promise of several museum and landmark
visits, and the theater class is going to see their last show.
Today the psychology class went to the Women's Library in London,
and the Religious Studies class went out to dinner at an authentic
Chinese restaurant.
12 January, 2006 - Morning
As of today, the photos are posted through yesterday.
Class trips have been slowly lessening as classes wind down to
exams and papers. The Religious Studies class is taking an exam
right now, and other classes are working on papers and homework.
English classes are taking the day off from busy London, and
visiting Bath and Stonehenge. The education class visited a British
primary school yesterday, and spent several hours working directly
with teachers and students. The Religious Studies class visited
the Royal Academy of Art to view an exhibit about three important
Chinese emperors. We saw various scrolls, paintings, clothing,
and religious objects that were used in the Chinese Imperial
court.
9 January, 2006
Today is our official "day off" from
classes. Only ETE is meeting today (they already had their break).
After class,
they are visiting the British Board of Education in London. Some
of the other students are hitting the theater, others are just
shopping and exploring.
Tomorrow classes resume in full-swing, and exciting things are
planned for the week ahead, including more theater, cathedrals
and temples, museums, and palaces!
8 January, 2006
Classes were brief today, and the ETE class had
the day off. ETE students spread their wings and enjoyed some
freedom. Four flew to Paris, and a few visited various sites,
including Stonehenge. The theater class visited the Hampton
Court Palace and got a chance to see what life was like for
English
royalty in past centuries.
7 January, 2006 evening
My apologies for the delay in getting these pictures
up. The wireless in the hotel lobby is not working tonight. I
will probably try to find an alternate way to connect tomorrow
if it isn't working in the morning. The bug should be fixed now,
so as soon as I have everything uploaded, you should be able
to see all of the pictures. Today, several English classes went
on a tour of Southwark cathedral and the Globe and Rose theaters,
after which many of us went to the Tate Modern art museum nearby.
The Theater class attended a showing of Hypochondriac, and enjoyed
it thoroughly.
6 January, 2006 evening
Today was a relatively slow day. The Theatre class went to
the changing of the guard and visited Westminster Abbey before
they had class this afternoon. They're off to see their second
play tonight. The English classes worked on their papers and went
to class, and we all were productive and chilly, though the
sun was out briefly this morning!
5 January, 2006 11:30 p.m.
Professor Newton's class visited Stonehenge, Bath, and Lacock
today. Dr. Getz' class took a tour of the Hindu temple in London.
The ETE class visited the British Museum today, as they were
at Oxford yesterday, and the theater class went to Greenwich
and toured the Royal National Theater. I'm aware that the website
may not display properly on some computers, please have patience
with me as I sort out these technical difficulties!
4 January, 2006 7:30 p.m.
Today Bradley took over the British Museum. Starting at 9am, each class
visited the museum. The religious studies class got an in-depth
look at the Asian exhibit with a special emphasis on religious
images and objects. Theater students saw the "big four": the
Rosetta stone, the mummies, the Elgin Marbles (from the Parthenon)
and the British Library Reading Room. Education majors, however,
went on a tour of Oxford instead of the museum. Tonight the theater
students go to their first production: Pinnoccio, and English
and religious studies students research and write about
an object that caught their eye at the museum. Tomorrow
includes a visit to Stonehenge for some, and a trip to a
Hindu temple for others, and the theater class will be touring
a London theater.
3 January, 2006 12:50 p.m.
Yesterday, after much time spent traveling, and somewhat delayed hotel
check-in, everyone gathered in the lobby, by class, to get
to know their professors and classmates. After everyone was
accounted for, each group departed for the London Eye with
the purpose of getting acquainted with the London Underground
system. After reaching their destination, some students took
a trip on the London Eye. After our adventure in the sky, the
professors departed and we were left to apply our newfound
knowledge and experience and attempt to get back to the hotel
safely. Everyone was accounted for this morning, as we boarded
buses for a guided tour of the city, so it is safe to say we
learned quickly and had good teachers. If only London Navigation
101 counted for Bradley credit...
The tours are over now, and everyone is eating lunch before classes begin this afternoon. This will be the first time students encounter their professors in a classroom environment, so they will all have to switch from "tourist" back to "student" mode.
