Day 2
London: Our first full day in London started early with a three hour bus tour of the city. Suze, our tour guide, pointed out all the traditional landmarks and gave us suggestions about where to eat and where to visit. We drove by Hyde Park and stopped to take pictures of Albert Memorial. We passed Buckingham Palace and saw that the Queen (unfortunately) is not home, but we did get some excellent tips about seeing the changing of the guard. St. Paul’s, Tower Bridge, and Big Ben afforded some more picture taking opportunities. Then after lunch and a bit more exploring the students had their first class and talked about what they had seen on the tour. ~Emily
Dublin: We all woke early for the full Irish breakfast featuring black pudding, white pudding, potatoes, and tomatoes. At 9 a.m. sharp the group huddled into a tour bus guided by a well-educated, charismatic Irish woman full of intriguing facts and hilarious anecdotes. During the tour we encountered many historical sites including St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Asbury Castle, Marion square and many other national monuments. The Irish streets are riddled with a prolific amount of history and beauty. The history of Ireland is extremely complicated and numbing as well. Discovery lies behind every corner as well as thousands of cute Irish accents reminding me of rainbows and pots of gold. ~Will
Vienna: We took a walking tour through Vienna's historic center after a traditional breakfast of fruit, croissants, yogurt, and, of course, Nutella. We begin our adventure on the U-bahn, Vienna's metro subway system. We soon arrive in Stephansplatz at the heart of Vienna, who's streets are overflowing with amazing street performers and tourists from around the world. After a visit to the 13th century Romanesque church Stephansdom and the Hofburg Complex, students travel to the square fronting Vienna's City Hall for the opening ceremony of the Life Ball. The annual Life Ball, Europe's largest charity event in the fight against HIV and Aids, celebrates its 15th year jubilee on May 26, 2007. We experienced Austria's free spirited culture when guests paraded down the red carpet in outfits made from little more than sequins, feathers, and stiletto heels. With famous celebrities like Sharon Stone, Adam Brody, and Maya making appearances, our cameras definitely got a workout. ~Maddy
