Day 5
London: The day was relaxing, with no classes, just a test for the retail management group. All the classes enjoyed a trip back in time as they explored Hampton Court and the lifestyle of Henry VIII. After a long train ride out to the country, the students were set free to roam about the area. One didn’t know really where to start because the castle was so huge with so many different things to see. Unfortunately there is no photography allowed in the castle but the grounds made up for it with a lovely rose garden, a maze, and an opulent topiary garden in the back. Students then went their separate ways with some heading towards Kensington and others going on the Jack the Ripper walk with friends from the Continuing Education group. ~Emily
Vienna: The day was cold and rainy as the group began their bus trip to the Mauthausen Nazi concentration camp. It was one of the largest labour camp complexes in German-controlled Europe and was responsible for up to 320,000 deaths during World War II. The classes we guided through the camp and shown the gas chambers and crematorium. After a chilling tour, we marched the steps to the quarry where so many prisoners had worked themselves to death. It was an experience that none would forget. ~Maddy
Dublin: Heading south on the DART (Dublin’s mass transit train system), Bradley students discovered a small town by the name of Black Rock. The students exited the train station, jumped the tracks, and proceeded in a single file line down the rocky shore not 20 yards parallel the rails. Seashells and strange foliage were scattered beside a rock wall which the intrepid travellers followed to a large, dark, serene cliff. The Irish sun came out on this day, providing an extensive panoramic view of Dublin’s peninsula. The bluish-green salty water was calm and meditative. ~Will
