Study Abroad

May/Summer 2007

Day 12

Vienna: Our bus departed on a four hour drive to the city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and home to the film the Sound of Music. We began with a steep climb up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, either by foot or by railway. The castle sits atop the beautiful city who's streets were filled with entertainers, food venders, and souvenir stands. We then explored the beautiful Maribell gardens featured in the Sound of Music. With only a few hours to get to know the city, it was soon time to load up the bus and head back to Vienna. ~Maddy

London: The English classes took a trip back through time as they went to explore Shakespeare’s Globe theatre as it put on a performance of Othello. We had groundling tickets, which meant we had to stand during the performance, which would have happened in Shakespeare’s time. It was very fitting that the English classes were going to see Othello in London because what could be more appropriate than Shakespeare in London. The performance though long was very, very enjoyable and the acting was amazing. The night ended with a group of us going to a local restaurant. The students then went up to their rooms to finish up presentations for class and journal about the day’s events. ~Emily
