"Economics of Innovation"

This course will provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of economic theories of innovation. We will discuss different ways to promote innovative activity, government involvement in innovative activity, public/private partnerships, and the concept of "optimal quality." Our discussions will be complemented by visits to some of the most innovative compaines and government organizations in the world! We will be hosted by companies and organizations like Tekes, Nokia Siemens Networks, Kone, and TeliaSonera. The company visits are integral to showing the prictical application of theories of innovation covered in the class. We will also have several guest lecturers, from both industry and academia, focusing on applied topics such as promoting innovative activity in different corporate settings and managing innovative activity in different cultural environments. This class will aid in your understanding of innovation, promotion of innovative activity in different cultural settings, and governmnent policies towards innovation. At the end of the trip, you will have a solid understanding of modern innovation theory and how it is applied in practice. You will be able to think analytically using both the verbal and quantitative tools commonly employed in economics and be able to apply those tools to solve both theoretical as well as practical real-world problems.

"Exploring Diversity: Learners, Families, &
Communities"

The course emphasizes the socialization and enculturation of learners in the context of their families, communities, and cultures. Within the context and interacting with students in Finland, this study abroad experience focuses on awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of diversity, whether resulting from cultural or ability differences. Professionals gain understanding of multicultural, antiracist, democratic, non-sexist, and global curriculum.
LAS 101: Study Abroad Orientation, Field Activities, and Re-entry
1 credit hour, required of all students
Program Cost: $3700
Cost includes tuition for 4 hours of academic credit, round-trip airfare from Chicago's O'Hare airport, housing, 3 group meals, excursions, textbooks, and International Student Identity Card
Registration: A 2.5 GPA is required to register for study abroad programs. Students who are present at 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 21, 2009 in the Student Center Ballroom, will enroll in order of their cumulative credit hours until classes fill. Thereafter, enrollment is first-come, first-served. Please come to the Study Abroad office, 325 GCC.
Payment: After the initial $500 non-refundable deposit, payment of $1600 will be due no later than February 2, 2009. Final payment of $1600 will be due no later than March 2, 2009. Please make checks payable to Bradley University.
Cancellations: Notice of cancellation must be made in writing. Those who cancel after February 1, 2009, will be subject to an additional $750 cancellation fee. Those who cancel after May 1, 2009, will be subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
